Ahead With Horses

The horses at Ahead With Horses are at the heart of everything the program makes possible. Each horse costs approximately $10,000 per year to care for, including feed, veterinary and farrier care, bedding, and other essential needs.

By helping fund their care, this support allows these remarkable horses to continue providing children with physical and developmental challenges opportunities to build strength, confidence, independence, and joy.

For many of those children, that life-changing connection begins with a horse like Ginger.

Savannah

Savannah. 5 years old. Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. Experience both sensory sensitivities and high activity levels.

Benefits from the structure, predictability, and sensory input of working with horses while also having opportunities to practice attention, following directions, impulse control, and social interaction. Savannah also feels very impowered and proud of herself and what she can do while on the horse.

Owen

Unable to walk independently, Owen benefits from the unique movement of horseback riding, which helps support his flexibility, posture, core strength, and overall mobility. But the impact goes far beyond the physical. His family has seen riding build his confidence, ease anxiety, and encourage him to try new things and say “yes” to more experiences.

After his very first ride, Owen climbed down from the horse beaming and spent the entire car ride home talking about how happy he was and how excited he was to return.

For Owen, horseback riding is more than therapy. It’s a source of joy, confidence, and possibility, and an example of the meaningful impact this support helps make possible.
